Glass Vanity
Glass Vanity
2010

Designed for: Kohler/Robern brand

Role: Lead Industrial Designer

Product description: A few months after joining the company I was asked by senior management, “What do you think Robern should be when it grows up?” At the time, Robern’s product portfolio mainly consisted of a range of mirrored cabinets and nonspecific bath lighting solutions.

I pondered this question with much enthusiasm and later with the support of my creative team; I instrumentally developed a design vision which featured an expanded product portfolio including glass vanities, thus offering practical and convenient storage solutions along with exquisite, contemporary designs for Robern’s Luxury consumer. It was instantly embraced by executives at an annual new product strategy meeting.

In collaboration with Robern’s new product team, plus tedious planning and product definition, we developed a range of vanity configurations that address consumer needs and tie in with Robern’s core manufacturing capabilities (glass and aluminum construction). Additional support came from my network in the A&D community to help validate the design directions and color trend suggestions.

The vanity is both a visual centerpiece and the most-used element in a bathroom. The simple square and rectangular shapes and colors of the Robern vanities lend a focal point to any bath or powder room while offering a host of additional features that enhance convenience and comfort for the user. The wall-hung units supply a solid base to create a complete design solution for the grooming space including countertop, sink, faucet and mirrored cabinet.
